OpenMotive

Careers

Advise the measurement standard.

Help define how OpenMotive captures, validates, and publishes engineering-grade vehicle geometry—so teams and software can reuse it with clear evidence limits.

Open roles are founding-stage only. We’re seeking research advisors, not a full slate of staff openings.

Research advisor roles

Three specialty tracks. Same advisory program.

  • 3D Measurement & Reconstruction

Scan plans, reconstruction, and dimensional limits.

  • Vehicle Systems & Mechanics

    Assemblies, interfaces, and fitment tolerances.

  • Simulation & Validation

Digital checks tied to physical evidence.

Advisor program

Advisors contribute through periodic technical reviews, experiment design, validation methodology, and introductions to relevant research or industry resources. Roughly 2–4 hours per month is a useful starting point; exact scope is set together.

Equity compensation is available, with terms based on scope, experience, and time commitment. Engagements must fit your employer’s or university’s policies.

In each track

3D Measurement & Reconstruction

  • Review capture plans for the surfaces and interfaces that packaging work depends on.
  • Advise on reconstruction methods, registration to a shared frame, and how accuracy is stated.
  • Help distinguish measured geometry from estimated or missing regions in published packages.

Vehicle Systems & Mechanics

  • Identify the interfaces and clearances that matter for intake, charge-pipe, and nearby packaging tasks.
  • Advise on how assembly relationships and mechanical constraints should be documented.
  • Challenge incomplete vehicle context before it is treated as engineering-ready.

Simulation & Validation

  • Propose experiments that compare digital assessments with physical vehicle checks.
  • Help define acceptance criteria and how uncertainty should travel with each dataset.
  • Review whether a claimed use is supported by the evidence attached to the geometry.

What helps most

  • A PhD in a relevant discipline, or equivalent industry research experience.
  • Publications, patents, or substantial projects grounded in measured data or physical testing.
  • The ability to spot weak assumptions and propose realistic ways to test them.
